The Opportunity
An independent film company with a history of financing narrative films centered on mental health themes, Valecroft sought to expand its portfolio to include mission-driven documentaries addressing issues such as youth mental health, land conservation, and wildlife preservation.
The Process
Synchronicity Collective leveraged its network of documentary filmmakers and entertainment industry professionals to source more than 50 funding proposals from independent creators seeking support for impact-focused projects.
We presented Valecroft's executive team with ten finalist projects, along with three curated recommendations for further evaluation and potential financing.
The Result
Directed by Anne Sundberg and produced by Sundberg and Beth Kojima, the feature length documentary film navigates intimate conversations with young people, parents, and leading experts, and through intimate conversations with young people, parents, and leading experts, the film reveals a generation that is thoughtful, articulate, and increasingly aware of how digital environments shape their attention, emotions, and sense of self.
While this work remains ongoing, we helped Valecroft secure an Executive Producer credit on The Drug in Our Pocket, a documentary led by an Emmy- and Peabody-nominated director and an Oscar-winning production team. The film explores the relationship between social media, youth mental health, emerging research on digital addiction, and youth-led efforts to create healthier digital environments.
The feature-length documentary is scheduled for release in early 2027.
Julia leveraged her extensive relationships across the entertainment and nonprofit sectors to identify a post-production project that aligned with our strategic interests and impact objectives. Her guidance led us to fund our first documentary, The Drug in Our Pocket – a milestone that underscores both the strength of the partnership and the caliber of opportunities Synchronicity surfaces.”
